People from more than 100 nationalities live in the Northern Territory, with about 140 social, cultural and religious groups. Darwin has mosques, Buddhist and Chinese temples and churches, and its food shows its closeness to Asia, with Thai, Malaysian and Indonesian influences.
The Territory is home to Aboriginal cultures that are among the oldest continuing cultures in the world. In 2026, Lonely Planet named Central Australia in its top 25 experiences for 2027, and The New York Times named the Top End one of the world’s places to visit.
Graduates of a Northern Territory provider who stay and work in the Territory after their studies can get extra time on their graduate visa.
