Tasmania is an island state of about 571,000 people, and more than 15,000 international students study here. Most live in Hobart in the south or Launceston in the north.
Tasmania was the first Australian state to reach net zero emissions. It has some of the cleanest air and water in the world, more than 1,000 mountain peaks, and beaches and ancient rainforest within easy reach of both cities.
Graduates find work in engineering, IT, construction, hospitality, health care, agriculture and teaching, and many Tasmanian companies run graduate programs for international students. Tasmania counts as a regional area, so graduates may be able to stay longer on a Temporary Graduate visa.
Hobart is about an hour’s flight from Melbourne, with more than thirty flights a day. Study Tasmania runs free career workshops and other employability support for international students.
